Types of Hip Pain

Your chiropractor will look closely at where you are feeling the pain to determine the cause. It can be the result of a variety of issues:

  • Piriformis Syndrome: This condition usually arises in someone who exercises often or plays in high-intensity sports. They will start to experience significant buttock pain, extreme lower back pain, and sciatica-like symptoms such as burning pain down one or both legs and even “numb” extremities.
  • IT Band Tendonitis: Iliotibial band syndrome is a common injury for runners. It happens when the IT band, a thick piece of connective tissue that runs from the outside of your knee to the outside of your hip, is inflamed or tight.
  • Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction: Your sacroiliac joints are located around where your pelvis and lower spine connect. When they get inflamed, it causes pain in your lower back and buttocks, extending down one or both of your legs.

If you are feeling pain in any of those areas of your body, a chiropractor can work with you and make a tailored treatment plan

Types of Hip Pain Treatment

Chiropractors have noninvasive methods that will provide you with relief for your hip pain as opposed to a surgical procedure. Some of those solutions include:

  • Spinal Adjustments: Spinal adjustments will help your spine get back into alignment, reducing any hip pain you are experiencing.
  • Physical Therapy and Stretching: Your chiropractor can work with you to provide personalized stretches and other exercises that will help increase your range of motion in your hips. This will also help strengthen the muscles, speeding up healing.

Additionally, your chiropractor will recommend taking pain medications such as ibuprofen to reduce inflammation.
